I'm in a league that playes the playoffs from week 14 and the superbowl on week 16. However they want the points total to end week 17. My point is what if your star players clinch and the coach decides to sit them week 17? So you just lose? I say end them both on the same week. Please reply.

I don't see what difference it makes if your point totals go past your league's final game. You have your winner after week 16 so if your star players are benched who cares you already know who won the league. Unless I'm interpreting it wrong. But yeah he should just end them on the same week.
