Drafted recently and have Stephen Davis as my second running back. While I like the situation he's in within the Carolina offense, various things (like DeShaun Foster, Davis' injury history, etc.) scare me about him for the long-stretch of a season. Should I trade him now for an Edgerrin James, Tiki Barber or other high-end second tier back? Which one should I go for? I've heard good things about Edge, but am nervous about him. I love Tiki's potential, but not sure if he'd officially be an upgrade over Stephen Davis or not. Anyway, would love some feedback on which way to go...
If you think you can get Edgerrin James, go for it. If he is healthy he can produce big numbers.
Tiki Barber can get 1700 total yards but not too many TDs. Last year i think he got the most of his career. He had like 10.
Stephen Davis will get most of the carries. Also the Panthers will be a running team. Think of him as Eddie George. It is similar situations between those two guys. He is a big RB that wears defenses down over the course of the game. The Panthers schedule is very unattractive. They have to play the Bucs twice and Atlanta twice(they did not score 1 point on Atlanta last season). They face some pretty good defenses thoughout the year Philly, Tennessee, Washington, the Giants...Their bye week comes very early, too so that could be a longevity problem.
You probably won't get Edge...it's close between Barber and Davis. Davis is going to be the feature back in a run first offense. Stay with him as your #2.
Edge DEFINITELY! I have him ranked in my top five this year. He's entering the 2nd year after his surgery, is still very young and is poised for a monster year in the Colts' offense. Two TE offensive line helps alot.
If you can get Edge, go for it. However, keep in mind that in his first preseason game Davis carried the ball 7 times for 70 something yards, pretty impressive. I would watch how both guys do in the preseason, then make your determination.
