Whatever happened to Eric Johnson?

Postby steelerfan04 » Sun Dec 12, 2004 7:53 pm

He has done nothing lately. Today he only caught 2 passes for 8 yards. What's up with him? Have the 49ers found better weapons in their offense or is he just in a major slump?

I didn't realize he had a rib injury, that explains a lot.

I think he realized that he's Eric Johnson, TE for the San Francisco 49ers.

Thats what happened to him.

Yea, he had a few really good weeks, but he was never an elite TE.

I'm not sure how much this matters but I don't think Dorsey looks at him nearly as much as Rattay.

I think it matters a lot.

I remember watching a Sunday Night or Monday Night game earlier this season where Dorsey was the QB, and the commentators harped on about how often Johnson was open but didnt get the ball thrown to him.

The numbers show this as well:

With Rattay at QB Eric has averaged 6 receptions and 66 yards per game.

With Dorsey at QB he averages just above 3 receptions per game and only 15 yards per game.

Those stats are slightly skewed since Eric had some monster games early in the season when Rattay was throwing the ball, but I still think it's clear that Eric doesn't get involved in the play nearly as much if Dorsey is at QB.
