Neither on of those is what I have. I wrote down the number of playoff appearances of every team. I do have the Cowboys with 27 playoff appearances, but there is another team that I have with 29. I'll double check it to make sure my answer is legit.

According to today's issue (01/06/05) of USA Today, the most post season appearances by an NFL franchise since the 1970 NFL-AFL merger is 21 appearances by the Miami Dolphins and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The answer I had is wrong according to the way I worded the question. The Cleveland Browns had made the postseason 29 times in their franchise history, but since the current Browns team was disbanded and then re-started as an expansion team, all that past history does not "technically" count. So the correct answer would then be the Dallas Cowboys with 27 playoff appearances prior to 2004. (The Rams have now tied them with their appearance this year).
