Wait a second...you said the most recent, right? This is the official list of retired numbers and the dates they were retired, with Carter being the most recent.

Number 10 retired as Fran Tarkenton (10/07/1979).
Number 88 retired as Alan Page (09/25/1988).
Number 70 retired as Jim Marshall (11/28/1999).
Number 77 retired as Korey Stringer (11/19/2001).
Number 53 retired as Mick Tingelhoff (11/25/2001).
Number 80 retired as Cris Carter (09/14/2003).

Stringer wasn't even close to the most recent with Tingelhoff and Carter getting their numbers retired after the late Korey Stringer.
