Why not use this for kickers?

Postby matmat » Sun Jan 02, 2005 2:30 pm

just more pondering.... why not use kick yardage/10 for kicker points? I mean, it's not like there is that much difference between an XP and a 19 yard field goal in skill. So a 54yd fg would be 5.4 and an XP would be 1.9...

what's up with these crazy stats you've made??? sounds like a good idea though, unlike your other idea.

Interesting idea. I'd probably leave extra points at the standard one per, though. Even if it takes the same skill as a 19-yard field goal, it's not worth as much to the team (besides, 1.9 points might be a bit inflated in most fantasy scoring systems).

Yardage/10 for field goals sounds like it could be worth trying, though. Sounds like an interesting twist.

Well, arlo. I'd love to see a stat on the # of FG < 30 yards. I have a feeling that there is a chance that yards/10 would reduce kicker scoring, so the XPs being worth 1.9 or so would then increase them. Besides, this would give the kickers that get to only kick XP more value. Like Vanderjagt in those games where he got to kick 6XP and no field goals...

Rian Lindell and Adam Vinatieri led the league with 13 <30 FGs apiece. Among kickers who played all 16 games, John Carney had the fewest, with just 3. Lindell and John Kasay were the only kickers (12+ FGs made) with over 50% of their FGs made within the 30.

Overall, of 254 of 703 field goals made this year (36%) were from 29 yards or less.

Hope this helps!

!

guess that the scoring I am thinking about would probably make the kickers a little bit more valuable. so maybe you're right about the XP.
