I just found out Barber was going pro this morning. I am majorly bummed... I think this could hurt us quite a bit. Valentine might see a position change to RB, and Glen Mason will use him as the power back in the combination. I don't know if Maroney is ready to be the number 1 back, but we will see this year. I think he needs to add about 10-15 pounds of muscle and gain some power, and he'll be great. Our 3rd RB, Amir Pinnix, switched to safety during the Music City Bowl, so that leads me to believe that Glen Mason and the rest of the coaching staff weren't ready for Barber to go pro. It will definitely be an interesting year for the Gophers.

I think pretty much every other team in the country would like to have Maroney as their starting back next year, I feel confident that he will have a spectacular season.

He's a great back, I'm just not sure if he will be able to handle the transition. He's always had Barber to fall back on. He could have a bad game and Barber could pick up the slack. I'm sure being in the RRBC last year will definitely help him in the long run, but I think he might be a little shaky over the first half of the season. Luckily, that's when you play the out-of-conference games, so hopefully he will make a good transition.

Hopefully he's making the transition when they play Michigan.

Oh, I hope not. I'm sicking of losing to Michigan every year, and then doing crappy the rest of the year.
