Pats can't keep settling for FGs

Oh, I wont disagree that Peyton played like garbage. Like I said, its something about the Patriots that makes the Colts fall apart, and I can't tell why. As for Brady supporters, stop throwing the Super Bowl MVP thing out there. Super Bowl MVPs mean nothing at all. Case and point: Desmond Howard has one. Peyton Manning has two REAL MVPs. Not one game MVPs. Im not even going to bother fighting with Pats fans and Brady lovers about Tom Brady, because its as futile as fighting with Yankee fans about Derek Jeter.

Peyton played decent, but overall their playcalling was horrible. Too many runs on first down. Too many runs on second down after a lousy first down run. Too many short dumpoffs. Not enough of the offense they used all year to get them to that point.

if it doesn't count, why do they bother giving it out?

incidentally, I wasn't throwing out brady's super bowl mvp's. I was throwing out his two superbowl mvp's.

its not like he unseated some scrub for christ sake.

Actually, I've won arguments, successfully arguing to a Yankee fan that Derek Jeter is not clutch.

But baseball is not football, and Brady wins when Peyton doesn't.

the importance of statistics is completly different in football and in baseball. baseball, afterall is a game of statistics; they play 162 games a year and over seasons of play trends develop. of course there will be lots of situations that go against the stats, but not nearly as much as in football. there is a lot more variation game to game in football; especially in one game winner takes all playoff games. so to say that manning is the better qb based purely on stats isn't taking everything into consideration; ie performance in playoff high pressure situations. the is the leader of that team and when they can't get the job done it does say something about his abilty to be clutch. brady has proven that he's clutch many times now (and yes, the superbowl mvps and more importantly WINS do count for something) and manning hasn't, that's all i'm saying when it comes down to who is a better playoff qb.

The Colts game is centered around a deep passing game. I'm not talking about just lobbing one 50 yards down the sideline; I'm talking about 20-25 yard deep outs and post patterns. You don't throw those passes in the snow with slow footing. Last year, Manning tried and ended up throwing 4 picks. This year, they tried to be too conservative and beat the Pats at their own game; dink passes and a power running game. Unfortunately for the Colts, you don't beat the Pats at their own game in their own backyard. IMO, the only way for the Colts to beat the Pats in a playoff game is to earn the homefield advantage, and turn the game into a trackmeet at the RCA Dome. Even then, I still don't know if I would bet against the Pats.
Vengeance is mine.

OK - I'm a Boston homer too, but I think that Vlad's comment was the most coherent statement in the whole thread (although I love Transmogrifier - how can you not like a calvin/hobbs freak who is also a pats fan?). I grew up in Hartford, going to Fenway so I have the perfect right to pull for the pats and sox (I'm also a Cincy fan b/c I went to HS there).

Patriots will sweep the mighty teams of Pennsylvania in the next month.

No, Brady doesnt win, the Patriots win. It is the defense that carries that team, not Brady. Lets not step around it, we both know it is true. Football is a much more team oriented game and you cannot point to a QB as the sole reason why a team wins, especially one that is not statistically dominant like Brady is.

No, it's not the sole reason, but are you forgetting how the Pats won their last two Superbowls? Something with a late drive ... led by some guy?

Don't bother Trans. This is the same guy who believes Aaron Brooks is a better QB than Brady.
