Hackett Resigns

Postby skibrett15 » Wed Jan 19, 2005 1:40 pm

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) -- New York Jets offensive coordinator Paul Hackett resigned Wednesday, ending a four-year stint marred by criticism for his conservative play-calling.

The move was expected after the Jets' 20-17 overtime loss to Pittsburgh in the second round of the playoffs Saturday.

Not unexpected, but this could mean, and should mean bigger things from the J E T S next year.

jets need to do some more:

cut Brien and Pennington

trade C-Mart for picks

sign Lamont Jordan, Ferguson, Abraham, Vinatieri, and a decent quarterback

and they'll be in excellent shape next season

Brien yes, Pennington no. C-mart for picks is probably the best move, but they may be too emotionally attached to him as their team leader.

Vinatieri isn't leaving the Pats, Bellichik would probably sacrifice his entire draft if necessary to keep the most clutch kicker in the game.

Definitely get rid of Brien. They have no choice there. Pennington should stay. Just give him a chance with a better coordinator/scheme. This would be the best time to trade C-mart but they can use him for a season or two more at a high level.

Penny just got resigned. No better way to telegraph to the fans

"Hey we have no idea what we're doing" than to sign a QB to 80 million dollars and cut him the next year.

Poor Doug Brien. Born without a leg.

I just read on CBS sportsline that Brien is staying with the Jets. :,-(

No way they can keep Brien. I know it wasn't completely his fault and he is generally a good kicker but you have to have faith in a kicker and there's no way the team and particularly the fans can have faith in him.
