Not going for the TD was a garbage call IMO. They would need a 2 point conversion to tie it anyway (after the field goal). They were on the 2-yard line!! I don't understand why you'd try for 2 points from the 2-yard line when you can have 7 points from the 2-yard line. If they don't make it, they have the Pats backed up inside their 2, instead of on the 40.
I understand Cowher was probably thinking that momentum was on his side, but nothing helps momentum like converting a 4th and goal to come within one score.

Umm actually they were down by 14 therefore 2 scores. The field goal mean they had to score a TD, 2 pt convo, and then another field goal.
They needed 3 score to win the game at that point and time. I don't care how you do your fuzzy math. Kicking the FG was the right thing to do, and Pitt fans shoulda heled their team save any momentum they had on that drive rather than being classless and booing. That was my point.
Whatever. Game's over now.

Only 3 leagues this year. No sense in rooting for everyone in the NFL.
I hated the field goal too. It really seemed like a failed drive to me. If we don't get in on 4th and goal, we're still down 2 scores; but the Pats are backed way up and I think we probably get the ball back relatively shortly. Even with the field goal, we're still down 2 scores. I thought the pass to Burress on 2nd down was stupid. The guy is 6'5" but he's not a jump baller like Moss. He just doesn't jump very well and we didn't complete one of those type of passes for a TD to him all year. Waste of a down.

The FG was the right call. Bettis had already been stuffed on 4th and short earlier, and this was a good two yards. Doesnt really matter now, but had Cohwer gone for it and not made it he would have been under more fire from the smart football fans than he was from the stupid people booing it pittsburgh.
If the field goal made it a 10 point game I could understand, but getting a TD, 2 pointer and a FG can be just as challenging as 2 TDs.
I said to my friend who loves Pitt when it was 1st and goal, if Pitt. doesnt score here the TD here, the game is over (I thought they'd get it), and I think that marked the point where the Steelers just couldn't close the distance.
I'm not agreeing with the booing, I'm just against the call. Mathematically, it doesn't make sense. I'm not a football coach, and there's a million factors that Cowher knows that I don't, but the field goal call just doesn't make sense to me at that stage in the game.
The field goal accomplishes one of two things: it either pulls the Steelers within a field goal, touchdown, and 2-point conversion, or leaves them within 2 scores if the Pats kick a field goal. If the Pats drive down inside the 30 and kick a field goal, the game's over anyway (pretty much). If you need to get a 2-point conversion to tie the game, you'd have to get it in from the 2-yard line, which is where you are now. If you miss the 2-point conversion, you need another touchdown, which is the exact same position you'd be in if you missed the 4th and goal; needing two touchdowns to win. So basically, you're putting off the 4th and goal from the 2 until later, when it's worth less and when you'd STILL need a field goal to win. Doesn't make any sense to me.
Do you guys who agree with the call see my point? And if so, can you tell me what is wrong with it?

I totally agree. they wasted the last part of the drive, btu Bettis most liekly could ahve ran it in for a TD on 4th down. if they made it , they would have actually had a chance.
