Numero Uno Mock Draft 1.1 (Updated 2/2)

Postby no1cowboysfan » Wed Jan 26, 2005 10:40 pm

Let me start by saying this is my first ever mock draft, so I can expect it to be crappy, and I would advise you to do so as well. Please leave any suggestions or input you feel is necessary, as I will no doubt be revising this over the course of a couple months. And... I really don't know to which forum it belongs, so sorry if I chose wrong. If you are completely bewildered as to why I would make a certain pick somewhere, I'll attempt to give my reasoning to whatever questions you may have. Thanks...

(Edit: 2/2) With a few changes in football news, this is another addition/edit to my mock. The 2.0 series will come out during FA, when team needs are addressed, and 3.0 series will likely be finishing touches before the Draft itself. After the draft, I'll make some more adjustments, and make myself look like a genius... :-b

I like some of the picks you have, but there are a couple I disagree with.

1. Ronnie Brown will go a lot higher than 32.
2. Jamaal Brown is not a top 10 player.
3. Alex Smith will go 8th at the absolute lowest.
4. Mosley is not a 1st round calibre player, although I like him in the later rounds.
5. Craphonso Thorpe sucks.

Pretty good for a 1st mock though.

I cant see the Eagles passing on Ronnie Brown if he's available. They need a backup RB more than a backup OLB.

I don't know if Baltimore trade down when they desperately need the best possible WR either.

Derrick Johnson to Cleveland seems out of place a little. I'd tihink they would go QB or OT with that pick.

Overall though, pretty solid.

Why would Washington want Heath Miller? I think a tight end is pretty low on their list of concerns. Maybe a lineman on either side of the ball.

i couldn't think of who else needed a RB as their first priority... I think Denny Green is sick of his current QB situation (considering he started King AND Navarre). So I guess Brown got the shaft. I do think that Jamaal Brown is a top ten player... at least for a team in need (say, the Titans, Redskins, 49ers, etc.). And yeah, I felt very guilty about putting Smith that low.

And Crennel would love to have a key defensive leader heading off his new team in Cleveland... so I'll probably stick with that pick. But yeah, I'll probably move up Brown and Smith when I find the squeezing room to do so. But with all the faith the Niners have in Rattay, I can't see them keeping that first pick. Of course, there is a new sheriff in San Fran.

I'll let you guys know when the next update is in place.

Why do the Redskins need a TE? Are the blocking skills of Chris Cooley and Robert Royal not thought highly of? As for their receiving skills, they didn't have a ton of yardage but they sure did catch a lot of touchdowns in 2004; 6 and 4 respectively!

2 Things jump out at me that are wrong with the mock draft....

#1 Ronnie Brown is going to be top 20 at the worst, most likely top 15. Tons of talent.

#2 Maybe this is just because I am a Jets fan, but there is no way that the Jets would pick a DT. They have Dewayne Robertson who they invested a #4 pick in a couple years ago and Jason Fergenson who is solid. They will end up picking a DE if they cant sign Abraham, or a corner if they do sign abraham. Personally I think they will take Carlos Rogers out of Auburn.

why does everyone say the Jets need a corner? Barrett is solid, and Abraham is awesome. So...

I have no idea. And if they didn't get a DT, what else should they get? Ferguson has been solid in the past, but his last season stats were kind of... bleh...
