2004 Super Bowl Predictions

Postby Cool Like Fonzie » Sun Jan 30, 2005 1:34 pm

I was reading the 2004 Predictions Forum and noticed we had 79
users predict the 2 entrants in this yrs Super Bowl
47 had gotten both teams wrong
with the (arguable) worst prediction going to MeShawn picking
Dallas & Tennessee
26 getting one team correct and
6 getting both teams right

Congrats to

th3ma7r1x
Nittany Lions
Canacuna

Well its not surprising that a lot of people picked these two teams before the season. If I remember correctly, the pats and eagles were given by far the best odds, especially after everyone on carolina went down.

I think a lot of people picked the colts also.

If I recall the predictions forum closed before the games started, so the rash of Carolina injuries didn't get factored in. Back then, while the Eagles were favorites by the odds makers, a lot of people thought Minnesota and Seattle were likely picks to represent the NFC, mainly because they had supposedly upgraded their defenses.

On the AFC side, despite the Pats odds favorites, many people were calling the Colts and Chiefs to make it to the Superbowl. Coincidently, these teams as well had speculation of having defenses better than they actually were.

It is interesting to see how things changed. How so few people gave the Steelers or Chargers a snow ball's chance of winning their division, and yet next year they're likely to be the majority pick.
