Now that Emmitt is retiring, will Curtis break his record?

Curtis needs to average about 1250 yards for 4 years to cover the 5000 yard difference between their totals. I think Curtis can definitely do it if he stays healthy. The question is whether or not a team will give him a chance to start in a couple of years.

I think he has an outside chance of breaking it but right now I'd have to say no. 1,250 yards in one season is no cakewalk, let alone the next 4. It's do-able but not likely. However, if he gets close in the next couple of years I can see him still being used as a starter just so he can break the record.

He retired officially today, which was a good move.

I don't understand why Curtis doesn't get any credit. He is coming off the best season of his career, with 1697 yards. I just don't think he will deteriorate so quickly that he won't be able to do it. Barring injuries, I think he will manage to pick up 5000 in 4 years.

He is a great back and IMO a very underrated RB, however I still say with Lamont getting more and more involved and him not getting any younger, he wont quite get there.

Lamont Jordan is a free agent this year, and I think there is a strong possibility the Jets don't resign him. John Abraham and Kareem McKenzie are the important targets, so I am not sure if the Jets will be willing to pay Jordan.

I think that Curtis will be the focal point of the jets offense for two more years, and then will probably go elsewhere. I hope this is not the case, because he has been so great for so many years. I hope the jets give him a chance to get to the record.
