Housh to Pittsburgh

Postby Keyser_WV » Mon Feb 14, 2005 9:15 am

CBS Sportsline:

T.J. Houshmandzadeh, WR CIN

News: According to reports, the Pittsburgh Steelers might look to sign T.J. Houshmandzadeh as a replacement for free-agent Plaxico Burress.

Analysis: Houshmandzadeh would experience a nice increase in value with the Steelers.

I wonder why they think his value would go up? Both PIT and CIN have good young QB's and both have good #1 WR's.

I think he would put up the same numbers at either Cincy or PIT.

Well, they probably think that Roethlisberger will find him better than Palmer, who tends to rely on Johnson. Burress is most likely going to be somewhere else after the offseason, so Housh can fill that role of #2 WR. And Ben did throw to Burress quite a bit when he was the #2.

There's already a post about this on the Steelers thread, and I think it's a hogwash rumor. Why would the Bengals trade one of their top offensive threats to their inter-division rivals? That makes no sense.

I think the bengals feel that they can't afford the pay raise that housh would warrent. Remember that they still have warrick, who they may put their faith/money in.

I still believe the Steelers will let Randel El step into the #2 WR spot. That's the whole point of developing guys, and they've taken a couple years to develop him. I'd expect them to use like a 3rd or 4th rounder on a WR that they may try out at #3 along with some of their other young guys.

It could definitely happen if they save a significant amount on Housh over Plax, otherwise they won't do it. They lose a lot of size with Housh but he's till 6' 1" so that's not bad. I really don't see a major value upgrade if he ends up in Steeler Land because Palmer threw to him a lot toward the end of the season (hence his value now) and I don't see Ben throwing to him more than Palmer.

I really believe his value would drop in PIT simply b/c of their style of play. CIN is more likely to open the game up w/ Palmers arm, and Big Ben didnt throw to Plax b/c he was a #2, he threw to him b/c they were basically best friends.

The News
The Steelers are looking at T.J. Houshmandzadeh as a replacement for Plaxico Burress.

Our Take
He'd be a perfect fit - a physical receiver who can go deep. Housh's game is not unlike Burress', but he'll come more cheaply and has less attitude. It would be a good, not great, landing spot for T.J.'s fantasy prospects.

More Hogwash Rumors for Lung to Stew Over. This one is from rotoworld.com.

Ya gotta believe Palmer wants him to stay. Just compare numbers from the last 2 years injuries notwithstanding.
