i think SD needed to do this with Brees to see if this year was an aberration or the real thing. If he does well next year, look for them to trade rivers and sign brees long term

this QB situation in SD is going to be awkward for a while... they would like totrade Rivers now, but he is worth little because of the experience factor, and we don't know if Brees will repeat his success (though I am optimistic for him). Trading Brees away results in starting a rookie QB of unknown future.

I think they will trade Brees high, and get some compensation for him. They were awfully high on Rivers, so they might as well get a great deal for Brees, start Rivers, and have an ultimitely better team if they trade right. And maybe Brees can return to Texas... (his home state).

On a side note, why hasn't AJ Smith come under heavy offers from other teams?

I hope this doesn't turn into a "Packers deal for Rivers" kind of thing. I like my QBs be to be able to complete a 25 yard pass without hurting themselves.

If they were desperate enough to sign Couch, it's possible they'd pursue Rivers.

You see that's just good buisness. Hold on to a guy and see if trading or keeping him will pay off. Detroit needs to take a lesson from this. Over the years they usually just let guys go right away to free agency, instead of keeping their investments for other investments. But, I hope Brees stays. SD was doing pretty good with him. No sense in trying to fix something that doesn't need fixing.
