If both running back Shaun Alexander and quarterback Matt Hasselbeck remain unsigned on Tuesday, the Seattle Seahawks already know who they will place their franchise tag on...Matt Hasselbeck.
No big surprise there. In free agency there will be replacements for Alexander, maybe no one as good, but suitable starters at RB. However there wont be any suitable QB starters.
A lot of the criticizm Alexander's received has been warranted. Not a downhill/North-South runner, doesn't hit the line hard, etc.
But you look at the numbers, and you ask "What more could we expect out of any other back in the league?"
It's always exciting to root for the new guy...but I have a feeling there's going to be a lot of second guessing come middle of next season. As a fan, you want the team to get the better end of roster moves..I just don't see that happening in this case.
I'm glad we signed Jones. I wish a non-franchised deal could have got done with Hass. Now, we're not going to be able to use the tag on Alexander.
Deadlines tomorrow. This seems like such a waste.

Only 3 leagues this year. No sense in rooting for everyone in the NFL.
ive been hoping for a long while now that it wouldnt come to this. im one of the guys that really hoped alexander could work things out and stay in seattle. he has been a workhorse over the last few years and has done his job well...it will be interesting now to see how much of it was him compared to the line once another guy takes the reigns. for me...when i think of the seahawks, i think alexander. i will be sad to see him in another uni next season
Didn't see that comin.I was all ready to start bashing the Hawks for letting Alexander go,since they let Ahman Green go before that. But I guess they are safe for now.Good move on the tag.
Wow, this is surprising to me. I didn't think they'd be able to get a deal done in time. Great move for Seattle, I like how they've been handling themselves so far this offseason.
No surprise to me. Hass said all along he wanted to stay a Seahawk so I figured a deal would be done. Now Alexander will be tagged, as expected, and the real question is whether they now want to deal him for value and grab a cheaper FA. They can start calling Al Davis, Miami, Gru-dog, etc.
