Aside from a painfully obvious plot twist, I liked it. The special effects were pretty good(not the best I've seen though) and Will Smith and Jason Bateman are hilarious. The 3rd act of the film could've been a bit better IMO but at least it all wraps up with a fun ending. So there you go, an original superhero film that actually works...
Yeah, a lot of that movie coulda been better. I wish it would have. The thing that irks me the most is that the previews make it look like a movie you should see in the theater... I think y'all know what I mean. Some movies should just be seen in a theater. This one gave that impression but did not deliver. The special effects, sound, and story were not good enough to waste theater money. I thought it was an enjoyable and fun movie. I'd give it a 7 point something out of 10 as well. It'll do well in the box office because of the previews and Will Smith. Word of mouth coming out of the theater is the same as the few that posted about it in here... good, not great... not a theater movie like the previews make it look. Fun movie though.
edit: at rotten tomatos it is only getting 36% positive right now. The consensus on it there sums things up pretty well so I thought I'd share.

someone needs to shoot the director of hancock. what was with all the out of focus shots? i thought i was drunk. well, i was drunk. but that's not the point. the first 2/3s of the movie i thought was cool. like someone else said the third act could have been better, well i think that's an understatement. i thought it was horrible.
anyway, i'd give it about a 6.

Dude Shoot Em Up was CRAP!!!!
I bet if you watched it again with a buzz and a couple buddies, you'd find it funny. A lot of times, I'm just not in the mood for a comedy. Are you sure you weren't on the rag when you saw it the first time?
Met, you really need to watch In Bruges. Ever see Ravenous?
Me sad.

I've seen the past 5 Will Smith movies on opening weekend but have absolutely no desire to see Hancock in the theaters. Maybe it's the trailers and the weirdness of it all or maybe it's kinda so-so reviews by most of the people I've talked to.
I'll wait for the DVD.
Bring on the Dark Knight dude, please, still 2 weeks away, argh.

It's worth seeing on DVD IMO, but you're not missing anything if you don't see it in theaters.
Kudos to Leber for the amazing sig and to Metroid for the userbar and making them both fit 2008 and 2009 Defunct Dynasty League Champion
