What movies did you see today?

I watched Kingdom of Heaven last night at the $2.00 theater... and I'm glad it was only $2.00. It was an alright movie, but nothing great or even recommendation-worthy. It was very slow and the battle that the movie built up to in the end was pretty disappointing.

Even the characters... first of all, Orlando Bloom isn't a "heroic figure" - he was miscast. There's also some other problems that I had with the stories of some of the characters... there were some things that could have been improved. The casting (aside from Bloom) was great... it's just the way they were handled in the movie could have been better.

And since the movie is about the Crusades... well, you'd expect the two sides of the war to take on the "good vs. evil" thing that most movies of this kind do. In this movie, they're both kind of neutral, it seemed. Yeah, it's kind of neat to have a more modern-view on religion in that kind of stuff, but for this movie... some good vs. evil action would have definitely helped 'em out.

i actually liked this movie a lot. it had good humor, and good story..and was different than most movies you watch.

vaughns character was awesome...and the rock playing his gay bodygaurd is classic. those 2 stole the show.

i would recommend seeing this movie for sure. id give it 8.5/10.

if you do happen to see it, check out the size of those dudes in the escalades 8-o they are so big (muscle wise) they dont even look human. especially that dude in the green celtics jersey. :-o

Watched Once Upon a Time in the West last night.
Brilliant stuff. Sergio Leone was a genius.
Henry Fonda as a villian was great, and Charles Bronson had that whole Clint Eastwood "silent stranger" thing down better than Eastwood.
Stunning cinematography, excellent acting, and all the quiet tension of the best Hitchcock flicks.
If you haven't seen it, definately check it out. The opening sequence is worth the price of admission alone.
Once Upon a Time in America is also highly recommended.
I'm sure you know Leone's "Fistfull" series (A Fistfull of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, The Good the bad and the Ugly), but these two movies are his masterpieces. ;-D ;-D

If it isnt already, this is going to be the longest thread in Cafe history. ;-D

I watched Terminal the other day, Tom Hanks plays what you would consider to be an eastern european guy who cant speak but a few words of English. I thought it was going to be be a hard fight to stay interested and at first I didnt think it was a good idea to have Tom not speak much English but they made it work and it was an enjoyable movie.

6.5/10

Just to add my two cents, the longest thread I can remember had something like 660 posts. It was the FACT or FICTION thread, if I remember correctly :-?

One of my all time favs here. Bronson playing "Harmonica" was just awesome. I think it was Leone's best work and I really love the Eastwood movies.

To take an opposing view, I actually thought Kingdom of Heaven was one of the better movies I've seen at the theater this year. Granted, it didn't have the non-stop action of gladiator, but I felt that it actually had a little more meat to the plot. I also like that it depicts religious fanaticism in such a way and that it doesn't simply draw a line between good and evil. It shows that there is good and evil on both sides. just my 2 cents. I'd give it a 7.5-8 of 10
