The Cowboys probably overpaid again, but the right side of their offensive line was their biggest weakness last year. They need to protect Bledsoe. All signs point towards Parcells trying to go out in a blaze of glory in the next two years before leaving the franchise in rough shape. Mar. 3 - 5:14 pm et
Man, these signing bonuses are getting ridiculous. Nonetheless, good move by the cowboys who needed to fix that line for Bledsoe
It seems like the big signing bonuses were used by the Redskins because it does not immediately count against your cap? However it comes back to haunt you down the road.
I need to read up on how these things work. Anyone know?
Great signing btw. Dallas should contend for the playoffs as a wildcard now.
Yea, Dallas is making some moves. Rivera is very solid, not as good as Wahle, who should be available soon if he isn't already, but good. That will help Dallas out big time.
But what is with the money they are throwing around? It seems like Jones thinks they can win this year, right away. This could end up hurting them down the road when they have a more developed team that is capable of winning.

I'm not sure how these work (cap figures, I mean), but here's how I think it works...
Base salary, while still on the team, is what counts against the cap for the players. But when a player is cut or traded, the remaining signing bonus that hasn't been paid must all be paid, and counts against the cap. Something like that, anyways.

I think you are right. Thats how it worked on Madden, and I cussed many a player I had to keep on my roster

THey gave Ferguson some money, I agree, but the Henry deal was actually pretty cheap, especially now that Lucas just made a mega deal paying him over $8 mil a year. Henry's $4 mil a year looks very meager compared to $8 mil a year, when the two are very close in talent.
Think about it, you can't find starting CB material in this league for less than $3-4 mil a year. It's just not going to happen. And if you can, they probably SHOULDN'T be starting.
Dallas is fine. They had $20 mil in cap room to spend before free agency, they've signed 4 starters in free agency (Bledsoe, Ferguson, Henry, Rivera) and still have some wiggle room and will still be able to sign two first round draft picks.
Plus the signings will not handicap Dallas for years to come. Take Ferguson's contract for example. It's front loaded, so if Dallas decides to cut him after 2 years, the cap hit won't be that bad.
I'd rather Dallas throw money around and make a legitimate effort to improve the team than sit on their hands and go 6-10 like they did last year.
Maybe I'm just bitter about the Jason Ferguson signing. He is a very good DT and with Dewayne Robertson the Jets probably had the best combo up the middle. Not anymore though

THey had a nice combo to be sure. Maybe only Jacksonville's Stroud/Henderson combo was better.
Now maybe Dallas' Glover/Ferguson combo will be one of the best.
I am glad that the Packers didn't resign him to some huge contract. I think Rivera should be exiting his prime very soon and at the age of 32 is a liability concern. I don't know about the 9 million dollar signing bonus, the bonus is guaranteed money, so if he pulls a Joe Johnson, then Rivera will get that 9 million, and them signing him to a 5-year deal is crazy, that was like when the Mets signed Pedro to a 4-year deal. Rivera is going to be there until he is 37?
