Postby disgruntledjetsfan » Thu Mar 03, 2005 6:23 pm

Yes, thats right Vikings fans, Clairborne signed today with the Rams.

I guess the Vikes now must pray that Derrick Johnson falls to #7....

HaHaHaHa. Silly Rams. Clayborne(sp) was oft criticized in Minnie last season for his erratic play. Seems like he has tons of talent, but will drive you nuts watching him not show up at the darnedest times.

I guess Martz is finally tired of his defense being a push over.

WOW that is definitely not cool. He was the one LB we actually wanted back playing for us in MN this year and now no. I doubt Johnson will be around at #7, we can hope but I wouldn't hold my breath. Basically the Vikings haven't done anything now. I mean we got Harris, but lost Claiborne. So we're right back where we started. Somebody better step up or it's going to be a long 1st season w/o Moss.

Maybe they could sign Tommy Polley he seems like he is inconsistent enough to play for the Vikes.

As for the Rams they gotta love this. They should make strides against the run next year. Matrz must be getting the D squared away so he can use all of his picks on Offense in the draft

A couple big LB signings by the Rams, but if they want to fix the D aren't they really hurting at CB? I know they are in Madden ;).

Definitely makes the Vikings look bad so far.

perhaps that is a problem they are willing to fix with the draft... it is deep at CB this year...

I have no idea what happened, but when I clicked submit it deleted my entire, quite lengthy post. Damn computer! :-#

Anyways, I'm proud of the moves that have been made of late. Two great signings that should take away our LB problems. Pisa Tinoisamoa is moving to safety (I'm not sure how that will work out), Thomas is moving to OLB (he still has plenty of potential), and Polley is likely to leave (good riddance)- so it was logical that we needed to make some moves.

Coakley provides a veteran leader who knows how to tackle and play defense, as well as contribute to special teams. Although I think we have signed him for too long, and he will be feeling the wear and tear in a few years, his presence will certainly be a positive impact in grooming the younger guys. Claiborne should provide a viable defender over the middle, his play may have been a bit inconsistent in the past, but he gives the defense a much-needed boost.

Free agency still has several possibilites in improving the team. We're apparently going to make a run at Bhaweh Jue, a CB who admittedly I'm not too familiar with. DT John Parella is a possible target, as well as one of the veteran OL on the market. Of course the next step is the draft, where there are plenty of intriguing picks to improve with.
