Great signing by the Chargers. They should do better in the playoffs this year with a bit more postseason experience. And if Brees is good again, dump Rivers off to another team.

Brees is essentially on an $8 million single season TRY-OUT contract. If he does not perform he is gone. But he will still have a nice premium. Cuz of this season and a respectable '05.

Chargers are my second favorit e team behind the Raiders(strange huh :-? ). They most definitely did the right thing. With the ONE-year contract and Franchise tag.

Rivers gets another year of experience. The Chargers will monitor his progress and Drew Brees's. And mid-season(tradeing deadline). They will have more hard questions to deal with. If the Chargers are an average team.

If DRew is playing awesome. Watch for Rivers to then be traded. If its only an average season. Phillip will come in.

And pay Brees a 15 million dollar signing bonus in the process.

They are giving huge money to Rivers already, so I dont think a huge signing bonus would hurt them that badly.

I think I read somewhere though that if they were to trade Rivers before this coming season, something like his entire signing bonus would also be transferred to the new team. That sounds like a bit of an incentive to get rid of him if I were SD.
