Ex-NFL TE Coates to Coach...

Browns | Coates Hired as TE Coach
Fri, 4 Mar 2005 14:36:33 -0800

The Cleveland Browns have announced they have hired Ben Coates as their tight ends coach. Coates brings four years of coaching experience and 10 years of NFL playing experience to the Browns.

this is a great pick up for the browns. adding one of the best TEs of all time to coach winslow is going to make him flourish in the new offense over in CLE.

i remember when he played with BAL, too bad he had to go to CLE though...

Heard about this. Didn't post it because... i didn't care. Winslow will prosper, regardless of the coach. But he needs a QB to throw to him. (Dilfer time? :-b )

I don't think it really matters. He should do well regardless but he does need someone to kick him in the hoohas every other play to keep him in check.

You guys may be giving a nutjob who's still pretty much yet to play a down in the NFL too much credit...I wouldn't say he's a lock for stardom just yet.

Coates was an assistant TE coach with Dallas last year. I don't know how much impact he had on Witten's development, but I imagine most of it was because of Tony Sparano.

Nonetheless, it's good to see Coates in the mix. I'm sure he'll only be a positive addition for the Browns.

That's a great hire for Crennel, especially with the impact TE Winslow. I'm sure Coates can teach him many things, mostly involving being a professional.

Sorry, couldn't let this slide. One of the best TEs of all time? Seriously? Man, this guy had a couple of nice seasons but he did nothing to revolutionize the game. I know it may just be my opinion but I doubt that he'll even get a sniff of the HOF.
