Saints ink J. Mayberry to 4-year contract

Postby TheOneManShow 26 » Sun Mar 06, 2005 4:04 pm

I like this move, I just wish the Saints would have gone after O. Ross or K. McKenzie instead, but Mayberry is a good pick up. He is a very solid lineman, and is a big improvment to the Saints O-line.

yes good move, but how much longer can he last at 31 years old?

a younger OL would have helped deuce long-term...

Rivera will be 33 next month... so wouldn't JJ profit more from a younger O-line long term? Especially with Larry Allen up there in age...

Point is, 31 for a lineman isn't that old if they are good. A 4-year deal is perfect in this situation. Good move by NO.

I dont know, but I gaurantee you the Eagles didn't let him go due to age or declining skill. He's still an impact player and hasn't shown any signed of declining. Great pickup.

It's a good signing. The Eagles knew they weren't signing him, I think it was more of an age factor then declining skill. They also have Andrews who can step right in. Good signing by NO.

i never said rivera was a good signing, in fact i think it was a VERY BAD move by jerry jones to pay someone that old that much money...

and the fact is mayberry IS old and has been hampered by injury his whole career and has never proven himself in the OL of a good running team, unlike rivera.

so i wasnt at all linking this to DAL and still believe that mayberry is too old and will get hurt again eventually...

I'd like the Mayberry signing a lot more if they weren't planning on playing him at RT. He's a Guard, and should play the interior.

We did get Dwight Smith today, which is a huge upgrade over Tesucky Jones.

I think Shawn Andrews is more of a reason why Mayberry was allowed to walk. 31 isn't that bad for an offensive lineman. At that age, he's experienced with good technique. I'm not sure how many years he'd be able to hold up longterm at OT, but he'd certainly be fine inside.

And upon further review, just as sappy, too."
