The Oakland Raiders keep making the right moves.
The club quietly reduced its cap figure by restructuring a portion of wide receiver Randy Moss' contract so that the Raiders, once thought to be strangled by the cap, were $3.4 million under the league's $85.5 million ceiling Tuesday.
League sources said the Raiders reduced the figure by guaranteeing the entire sum of Moss' contract this season, which calls for $7.25 million plus $250,000 in escalators.
By turning $5 million of base pay into guaranteed money the club can, for accounting purposes, prorate the figure over the lifetime of the deal -- thus dropping Moss' cap number to $3.75 million for the coming season.
Good move for OAK. Maybe we will see some more moves from them this offseason.
