The Dayton Daily News reports nearly a year after his near-fatal car crash, Cincinnati Bengals CB Dennis Weathersby's football future is in doubt. HC Marvin Lewis said team doctors have recommended that Weathersby not play football again. Weathersby spent the entire 2004 season on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list after sustaining a head injury on April 12 when the 1996 Chevrolet ImpalaSS he was driving crashed into a utility pole on a rain-slicked highway ramp in the Cincinnati suburb of Springdale. The car crash marked Weathersby's second tragedy within a year. On April 20, 2003 — Easter Sunday, just six days before the 2003 NFL Draft — Weathersby was shot in the back as he walked to his truck on a street in Duarte, Calif., northeast of Los Angeles. The Bengals decided to take a chance on Weathersby, making him their fourth-round draft pick (No. 98 overall). Even though the Bengals were not obligated to pay Weathersby in 2004 because his injury was not football related, the club honored Weathersby's contract and paid him his $305,000 salary.
He's had an incredibly tough couple of years, Im glad to see the bengals did the standup thing and paid him last year.
