The Giants re-signed backup quarterback Jesse Palmer to a two-year contract on Sunday. The New York Post reports that the deal is worth $1.5 million. Palmer, who appeared on ABC's "The Bachelor" last year, will compete with the recently acquired Jim Miller for the No. 2 signal caller duties behind starter Eli Manning.

OUR VIEW

Jesse and Eli are best buddies off the field, which might have played a part in management's decision to offer Palmer a new contract.

They really better hope Eli doesnt get hurt, or they are going to be in some major trouble.

At least Eli wont have to find another person to take the top bunk at his house

I think most teams that lose their #1 would be in trouble.

I think Palmer isn't a bad player, but he is the wrong type of backup. With Eli, you need a veteran backup. Brad Johnson would have been a much better fit here. I expect Miller to play second fliddle and Palmer to just take up a roster spot.

Well I think Miller will be Eli's veteran QB, a mentor, the guy who helps him prepare. But Palmer is the guy who goes in and plays if Eli gets hurt. So considering that they already had Miller I think he's the right type of backup. Not that he's very good but there weren't a lot of options out there. ;-)

So E-Cry keeps his security blanket. That's sweet. I don't see it having much of an impact on the Giants' offense because should E-Cry forget to look both ways before he glides down the line of scrimmage and get de-cleated again, Coughlin will revert to a very conservative O. Even Palmer will be able to hand it to Tiki, pass to Shockey or Tiki for short gains.

A lovely, heartwarming story nonetheless.
