PS2 Madden Online Help

I have a friend who is trying to get his PS2 hooked up online. When it comes to the screen where is says "Authenticating DNAS" (not sure of the exact wording) it just stays on that screen and won't move on? Has anybody else had this problem. Any help for him would be great. Thanks.

Well if it gets that far there's a connection established. What is his connection speed? Also, the server may just be overloaded by players and it cannot find space to connect.
