2005 RB situation....

As I sit down to do my first Mock of the year, it seems to me like this year is a very risky year for RB's... Seems like a lot of boom/bust and old as dirt RB's who had their last hoorah's in '04 look to go in the first 2 rounds....

How are you guys ranking them this year? Here's mine:

1) L. Tomlinson
2) S. Alexander (might go number 1)
3) E. James (depending on where he lands by season start)
4) T. Barber
5) C. Dillon
6) R. Johnson
7) D. Davis
8) W. McGahee
9) J. Lewis
10) P. Holmes
11) B. Westbrook
12) C. Portis
13) A. Green
14) D. McAllister
15) C. Martin
16) F. Taylor
17) W. Dunn

i stopped reading after i saw tiki at #4. getting plax doesn't raise his value THAT much.

For the life of me I can't figure out why everyone has Rudi so high. The guy plays the Ravens and Steelers in 25% of his games and hasn't really established himself as a goal line beast. He's a great RB (and I'm a big Bengals fan), just not top 8 like I've seen recently.......

Tiki and Dillon have no business being 4t and 5th. Drop them to about 10th or 12th.

McAllister is WAY to low on your list as well. He was hampered by a high ankle sprain most of last year, a poor passing game, bad Def, and VERY poor play calling. While thay can't fix all of those things in one season, they have changed their OC, and are supposedly simplifying their offense, and becoming more of a running team. He may not be a top 5, but he certainly is not worthy of being 14th.

The knock on Tiki Barber has always been his fumbling issues, which he seems to have corrected.... Let's look at his stats over the last 3 seasons:

2002: 1387 rush, 597 rec, 11 TD's.....

2003: 1216 rush, 461 rec, 3 TD's.....

2004: 1518 rush, 578 rec, 15 TD's.....


What's so piss poor about those numbers? Yes, his TD total in '03 was garbage.... But that was under a different system.... I think Coughlin's system has done wonders for Tiki....

Maybe I have him way too high on my list... I'm not saying I don't.... But, I think Tiki is definitely a top 10 back for '05.... Given what's out there.... Which ain't much... Once you take Tomlinson, Alexander, and maybe Edge off the list, just about everyone else left is a crapshoot.... McGahee might be something special.... But, Holmes is old as dirt.... Deuce was nothing but a disappointment last year... Maybe as a Deuce owner, I'm being too hard on him, but he single-handedly killed one of my teams in '04.... Who else would you put above Tiki? MAYBE Jamal Lewis, but again, he was an '04 flop.... Portis? Dillon? Rudi? Who's gonna top Tiki?


See? This is what I'm talking about... There just ain't much depth at RB in '05... You have 2 studs, and a whole ass load of maybe's....

Cause there ain't much out there at RB that is dependable at all... Rudi faced the Ravens and the Steelers twice last year, too, and he still put up over 1400 and 12 TD's.... What's the problem?

What you're actually seeing is more depth than ever at RB. You're right that there are 3-5 studs (depending on who you talk to) and then 10-15 guys who could very well end up anywhere on that list at the end of 2006. What's not deep about that?

I mean there is very little stud depth.... Once you get past Tomlinson and Alexander (and maybe Edge) just about everyone else on that list could finish #3 or #20.... Which, when I'm drafting, scares the hell out of me....
