I've had my share of frustrations over video games, but I've never taken it to this level. :-o I knew that gamers were pretty hardcore in Asia, but to lead to death??? :-°

Sadly, they answered in dollars...that's when I knew some people were too obsessed.

Yup, I played Diablo II online also. When I quit I was giving some of my items away when my friend told me how valuable it was on Ebay. So I start selling items and I made a couple hundred bucks. Then I get back into the game simply to make money and I ended up walking away from that game with like 2,000.00. Considering I spent probably over a thousand hours playing the game.... hey I still got paid a buck an hour to play video games ;-D

not only items, but in-game currency.

http://www.ige.com

This site alone offers fifteen massively multiplayer online game currencies to be purchased.

So do the math:

15 unique games X approximately 15 - 30 different servers per/game. That's how many unique worlds they're offering to sell currency to.

It's a HUGE market.

And IGE isn't the only "company" that does this. There's definite competition in each game.

These company employees that rake in all the gold/platinum to sell online are generally referred as "farmers".

They'll sit in an area and repeatedly kill the same creatures if they know that they'll get nice items/currency to sell.

It's a definite pain in the ass to players. And it's something that Game publishers and mangers are constantly at war with.
