My dad and I are planning a trip for June of 2006, we usually go some where every year, however, this year is our year off because I am going to Washington D.C. with school. We are planning a trip to Virginia to Shenandoah National Park, however, we plan on making many stops along the way. We will be departing from Madison, Wisconsin, we are planning on taking I-90 to Chicago, then in Chicago hit I-65 to Indianapolis, once we get to Indy we will stride down I-74 to Cincinnati. Once there, we must take Ohio State Highway 32 to Jackson, Ohio, then we will transfer onto US Highway 35 which trails down to Charleston, WV. At Charleston, we will ride the West Virginia Turnpike to our first destination, Beckley, WV. You're probably think, where the hell is Beckley, and why are you going there, well in Beckley there is a National Park known as, New River Gorge National Park, after a day there we will trek to Harrisonburg, Virginia, about an hour outside of Shenandoah, the next morning we will take a 1 hour drive to the heart of the park and explore for a few days. The next part of our trip is where I need your guys' help for some ideas. We've got the road mapped out, but that's about it, other then a couple stops. We would take I-81 up to I-70 were we would cut it up onto the Pennsylvania Turnpike, which will eventually turn into I-90, and I-90 heads home to Madison. So far, we have decided a few stops from Shenandoah to Madison, Cuyahoga National Park, Football Hall of Fame, and possibly Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.
If anyone has any information on any of these stops, suggestions of affordable hotels, or any suggestions on places to see any where along the way, especially in Pittsburgh or Cleveland. Thanks in advance, and no need to rush, we still got 15+ months 'til this thing is going down.
