AP reports WR Joe Horn's cell phone cost him $30,000 in fines when he used it to celebrate a touchdown during a New Orleans Saints game against the New York Giants. The same phone cost Jay Foster just $645, and it has been worth every penny. Foster, who purchased it at a charity auction last year, keeps the phone, complete with all of Horn's personal contacts still stored in it, on a pedestal in a jewel case in Foster's Ocean Springs law office. It makes for an interesting conversation piece with clients and is a reminder of Foster's love for his favorite team. Foster said his friends have called him "nuts" for spending so much on an ordinary cell phone. But the diehard Saints fan says the phone's sentimental value has no price tag. "This is a piece of Saints history," he said. "I just had to have it." The phone, autographed by Horn with the message "Can you hear me now?," has also brought Foster a shot of fame. He said ESPN's production crew spent nearly four hours filming him at his home three weeks ago for a piece that will air on "SportsCenter" on April 11. The money Foster paid for the phone was donated to Christian Brothers School in New Orleans and other than a trial call to his office, Foster hasn't used it for anything more than decorative purposes. Rather than selling the phone later for a profit, Foster said he plans to donate it to the Saints Hall of Fame after Horn retires.
i really dont see the price being that steep. you gotta figure the phone itself prob cost a couple of hundred dollars, and its signed also. it was definitely a memorable moment..and would be a cool addition to a sports room. kinda surprises me he left all the numbers in it tho

yeah, a YAz baseball jersey goes for $1k, and a mini Drew Bledsoe helmet goes for $400 (in Hartford).

Yeah $645 seems like a pretty damn good price. The phone plus the contacts is worth that much alone, not to mention the sentamentality. (depending on who Joe knows)
Whoa, if it was me I would have deleted all the contacts before putting the phone up for auction. But yes, it does bring a lot of extra value to the item. $645 seems like a good price.

I'd say he got a nice deal...One of your team's best players autographs a phone that got nationwide attention for a week or two with possible celebrity phone numbers? Good job I'd say...he's a die hard fan that has a nice piece of history!

Yeah, the contacts part is cool, it's like seeing Paris Hilton's contacts.. hehehe
This brings me off on a tangent. This guy is so lucky to be on Sportscenter. I was at the Pilot Pen in New HAven (tennis match), and these two ga y (filter protection) guys who were in the row in front of us were interviewed for Sportscenter. they were asked about things like if they liked anna kournikove (cause she was there), and all this other crap, that you could tell they were making up. PLus, they were using their voices on it. So I turn on ESPN the next morning, and who do I see?? The guys talking to the reporter. Damn, my foot was on SPortscenter!! It still makes me mad that the reporter chose to interview other guys rather than me, sitting right behind them. This guy who got the cell phone is SOOO lucky to be on SC, it's like a dream come true, at least for me.
