He "is not a monster. He's a good boy who made a bad mistake. This is a mistake that will haunt both families for the rest of our lives," the statement said.
This line really set me off. No way should anything like this be viewed as a mistake. Now a brief spat of anger I could understand, but he freaking clubbed the kid to death. Even at 13 you know not to repeatedly hit someone with a baseball bat, and should be held accountable if you do that.

True, but it was a statement from the victims family. Plus, I think he only hit the guy in the head once. if it happened repeatedly someone would have stopped it.
This is just scary. There was actually a local news story about two 12 year olds and an 11 year old who had been jumping people in a park over in Surrey I believe. They actually knifed a guy.

Didn't realize on the first read that was the victim's family. That truly puzzles me. Its just that the overall tone of all the article seemed to be sympathetic to the attacker with the quotes it used that bugged me.
He did hit the kid at least twice from the report. Once in the knees, once on the head, don't know from the article what exactly came next, but to me that just seems like you're trying to beat someone to death.
I've never actually been hit with a baseball bat in the knees, but I have had my knees taken out by many other things from all angles: minivan, swift kick, etc. Really no matter where you hit the knees, if you apply sudden force, the person falls down. It just seems too calculated that the kid took one swing into the kid's knees, which should drop him to the ground, defeneless, and then another swing to his head. At the very least this kid needs to be put into a mental institution and let them deem whether or not he's fit for society, or a danger to others.
"He's just a funny kid. He liked to make people smile," Gosporra said. "You could be in the worst mood, and he would make you laugh."
Until he is the one in a bad mood and someone tries to cheer him up.I agree that this was no "mistake" as the victim's family put it.That has to be the most forgiving person on the planet.Anytime you strike someone in the head,it is no longer just an accident,it is intentionally trying to injure beyond what can be considered "normal" in an argument situation. Most people fight, they throw a few shoves, some punches, maybe hold someone down until they give in,but to hit someone in the head with a weapon just shows the unstability of this kid.
Yeah this truly sad and unfortunate. If a kid gets ridden and ridden, he may break at some point, and it seems he did. He needs to know the difference between right and wrong, and what he did clearly was wrong in how he handled it. Everyone gets teased as a kid, that is no reason to kill someone. I can't imagine he meant to kill him, but he clearly tried to hurt the other guy badly.
