Is my kid already set up for defeat?

Postby MadScott » Fri Apr 15, 2005 4:27 pm

Some of you may know already but for those that don't, the wife and I are expecting our first child soon. We recently found out that the child is breech, however, which means that it is head up v. head down so the Dr. want to perform a C-section. We got talking with him recently and he only performs surgeries on Wednesdays so to make a long story longer, our child is set to be delivered next Wednesday, the 20th. In other words, our kid is going to be born on 4/20. :-o I figure that this kid is going to have one hell of a birthday party when he/she gets to college each year. :-b

I suppose Ricky Williams wouldn't mind throwing him a nice bash every year, so at least you'll be able to meet guys like Ziggy Marley and Lenny Kravitz! ;-D

Has the baby already dropped down into the pelvic area? If he's still relatively "up" they can perform a manual "inversion".

Basically, they physically rotate the baby with two pairs of hands..one assistant moving the lower half of the baby, one doctor moving the upper half, externally.

My wife had to do this for our first child. It's painful, and there are special conditions that need to be present to make this a viable alternative. However, if they haven't mentioned this you might want to give it a go if you and your wife would like to try avoid the c-section.

Doesn't hurt to ask. ;-D

what's so special about 4/20?? DOes it have to do with spring break?

I was also a breech and my mom needed a C-Section for me. SHe told me that it wasn't too bad and that the baby remains safe and unharmed during the process.

Actually, we did check and the official quote was "I've been doing this for 35 years and won't perform an inversion. If you want an inversion, you need to find a new doctor." His reasoning is that in all of the years that he's been an OB, his experience has been that they typically are breech for a reason. It could be harmful to turn the baby, it's very painful for the mother to have it turned and the baby can turn right back to it's original breech position after turning. Once my wife got her mind around having a scheduled C, everything's been cool. It's still not completely out of the realm that it could turn, but right now we are at 38.5 weeks so it's not very likely.

My wife had a C section with our only child and was fine. It sucks for the first day (it IS surgery, so there is some pain) but she got around ok after that. I was in the operating room when they did it and looked at the wrong time. :-o Needless to say, I saw a whole new side of my wife (the INSIDE). Pretty wild stuff.

Yeah, I've been told to try and stay on the Northside of the curtain. I'm sure everything will go swimmingly.

Mtryanks, just google "420" and you'll find out. :-° Hopefully the filter lets it through. :-b
