STILL FLYING HIGH: Another broadly marketed athlete will receive one of the top endorsement honors in sports this year. Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb, who had had as many as five national TV ads for different brands running simultaneously, has agreed to terms on a deal with Electronic Arts that will put him on the cover of Madden NFL 2006 — not only the top-selling sports video game in the United States, but the top-selling video game of any kind in the nation. With EA’s new exclusive deal with the NFL, McNabb will doubtless get the benefit of amped-up marketing for this year’s game.
No word on whether EA’s 2006 Madden game will contain a “super slow” mode, in deference to the Eagles’ lack of a hurry-up offense in Super Bowl XXXIX. Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis was on the cover of Madden 2005.
CSMG handles marketing for McNabb. Other large deals for McNabb include Reebok, Campbell Soup Co. and Lincoln Financial.
