We watched it in the cafeteria at school, I was cheering for the Kenyan guy.

I heard that the church was seeking to put in a "transition Pope" of sorts, to take a break after the long tenure of Pope John Paul II.

This is pretty big news, strange to have a new pontiff... it will take getting used to.

So long as they don't elect any of those touchy feely priests they wisked and away and hid from the authorities to be pope, I'm happy with the selection.

Really, considering how respected, renown, and just good of a guy Pope John Paul was, any pope will have a hard time living up to current expectations of pope.

I heard that this pope was going to be a "Transition" pope, who only lasts a few years. The they elect a young guy who can last for 30 years or more.

Pretty cool.

Does anyone know if there are rules for picking the Pope's name? Could he have called himself Pope Tupac I? or are there certain rules?

I'm guessing that there are rules because there been 16 Benedicts?

They also spoke of someone who would be able to stand in the shadow of JPII and this is definitely the guy. In essence, he was the nuts and bolts man for JPII as he was in charge of the theological doctrine of the church. Totally agree too in that it just sounded weird to hear "Pope Benedict XVI" instead of John Paul II.

They are getting ready to start the process of making him a saint so indeed he does cast a long shadow.

I heard the saint thing is pretty tough to get through...you have to have done two miracles or something. I wonder what types of miracles qualify? :-?

Well, Boston won the WS in his popehood, so maybe that's one. Just kidding guys!!! ;-D

Well, one of Mother Theresa's miracles was healing cancer I believe. She blessed this lady and it went away after time. I think there is more to the story but I don't remember what my teacher said exaclty.
