Steve Reed, of the Gaston Gazette, reports the Carolina Panthers have signed free agent TE Freddie Jones (Cardinals). Terms of the deal were undisclosed.

good signig by CAR, leaves ARI without a reliable TE though...

Freddie Jones years of being a reliable TE are over. Look at his stats. I would not pick him up off the WW.

so freddie jones isnt a reliable TE over Kris Magnum? put down your crack pipe and re-examine what you're saying about CAR's TEs...

Compare to what the Panthers had, it was definitely an upgrade.

I would not be surprised to see them invest a 2nd round pick in a TE such as Alex Smith (no, not the QB one, this one's from Stanford). It would give them an immediate and future player at the position.

taking alex smith, if he is still there, would be a great move for CAR...

Maybe a good TE in reality...But for fantasy purposes are you really going to draft or use him...or rely on any points from him...Now that i have passed you my crack pipe...re-evaluate FJ fantasy-value.

Just looked...***edit***new section

KMagnum 34 catches 380 plus yards and 3 tds
FJones 45 catches 430 yards and 2 tds.(cbs.sportsline) #1cowboysfan

As for blocking stats....i have no idea where to get them.

But in Carolina with Delhomme controlling the offense on the field. FJ could actually make a decent sleeper TE for EXTREMELY CHEAP. Most teams do not keep two tes on their roster.

One thing is for sure. FJ is going to be in a better situation next season.

:-° :-° ...give hash pipe ;-D

(intercepts crack pipe)

Hah... grabbing that crack pipe was easier than picking off Kerry Collins.

Anyways, I think Freddie had a decent year in 2003 (especially in a 10-12 teamer, Freddie is a more than formidible backup).

2003: 55 receptions, 517 yards, 3 TDs.

Granted Freddie's best years were in San Diego, but look who his QB has been as of recent years... Josh McCown? Having Jake Delhomme passing him the ball is an improvement. And yes, he is an upgrade over the TEs CAR had before.

And by the way, whether or not Carolina has a legitimate chance of going to the SB this year (a slight chance, methinks), you can't deny they are certainly going for it. Giving huge contracts to Wahle and Lucas definitely recipricates this.
