Redskins | Gibbs Calls Ramsey Starting Quarterback
Thu, 21 Apr 2005 07:00:49 -0700

Casey Husband, of Redskins.com, reports Washington Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs called QB Patrick Ramsey the team's "starting quarterback" and a player the team is looking to build around. The team is trying to down-play speculation that they have interest in selecting NFL Draft prospect QB Jason Campbell (Auburn), which would likely force Ramsey to the sidelines. Gibbs seemed to refute that notion, saying Ramsey knows how the team feels about him and they are trying to get everything around him so he can be in the best position to lead the team into the playoffs.

maybe yet another smokescreen on campbell but i would really like to see them give ramsey a shot...

This doesn't mean that they won't take a QB
Ramsey could be their "starting" QB but for how long - I don't think a QB in the draft is outlandish for them as
Brunell is old and ineffective
Hasselback the Younger is pretty bad

Even if they keep Ramsey - they may need a backup and possibly someone to groom to replace him
16-teams - 1pt per 10yds rush/receive, 1 pt per 25 yds pass,No PPR
QB(1): Orton,Leftwich,Leinart
RB(2): Jones-Drew, Grant, Cadillac, L Washington, J Davis, Bernard Scott
WR(2): R. White, V. Jackson
TE(1): D. Clark, J. Finley
K(1): Gould
Def(1): BALT,GNB

a QB in the draft isnt "outlandish", but taking campbell in the 1st is...

The Skins are not going to take Jason Campbell. End of story.

well thats all well and good for you to say but you arent their GM.

and unless this is the worst decoy in draft history, the redskins have made it clear they are strongly considering campbell with that 1st round pick...

They have? Show me where. Lenny Pastabelly is certainly not part of the Redskins orginization.

All Joe Gibbs has said is that Ramsey will be starting next year. And if it is a decoy, wouldnt it be a good one, because the media is eating it up.

Gibbs is not one for bringing in rookie QBs. It makes no sense for him to trade up for one. Especially BEFORE the draft. I'm guessing this pick will be traded for a veteran defensive player, or one of the two first rounders will be traded down.

Gibbs happened to be at Auburn recently, but its more likely he was there to scout Carlos Rogers. Maybe even talk to Campbell about Rogers. (He interviewed everyone on Miami last year about Sean Taylor).

If we draft Campbell I will lose it.

I personally htink that they will still draft campbell, and campbell will replace Ramsey a few weeks into the seaosn. nether Ramsey or Brunell are good enough to start, so campbell could be their answer.

brunell is no good, baut are you really gonna say that ramsey isnt better than an overrated, unproven rookie?

ramsey vs. campbell right now? ramsey wins...
