One has to wonder what kind of legendary music Hendrix would have made had he not died so young. Only because Hendrix lived for such a short time do The Stones get my vote. Not really a knock on Jimi, but the Stones have been hit-makers for four decades.

Wierd I kinda went the other way. I feel their music has been stale for quite some time. Since the 80's on they haven't made many good songs, and just about every new album pales in comparison to their earlier work.

So yes, they had the longevity, but Hendrix was fantastic for his entire, though short career. If I had the listen to the Greatest Hits of each, I would probably still put on Jimi, and when comparing his greatest hits to the stones greatest hits, he's not far off, despite having had decades less time to make music.

Plus he's the greatest guitarist of all time.

This is the toughest choice I've seen yet.

Jimi gets it though.
He's just a pure musician. And true rock and roll. The Stones are really more pop. (Than Jimi I mean.)

Did you know?
-Jimi practiced 8-14 hours a day on average.

-Half of his recordings are unreleased "backyard" jams.

-He was insecure about his singing voice.

I love the Stones, they were my favorite band in high school (class of 2000), but you cant stack them up against a talent like Jimi.

Great Songs:
Stones:
"Can't you hear me Knockin" "19th Nervous Breakdown" "Beast of Burden" "Let it Bleed"

Jimi:
"Taking Care of no Business" "Third Stone From the Sun" "Little Wing" "The Wind Cries Mary"(obviously)

Among many others. Like I said toughest matchup yet.

This one wasn't so tough for me...I love the Stones. I have seen them in concert a number of times and have enjoyed their stuff for years.
