Give me a minute. Let me see if I can figure this one out.

I can tell you this much, the answer is going to be between 4.9 and 5.

Vins is definitely right on the first one. That was a nice problem to solve.

This second one seems a little more complicated. To me, it seems like you're going to get x^2 or x^3 terms. There very well might be a typo involved. I'm really not sure where to start.

Exactly. And since I've never seen a keyboard with and exponent key, I had to right it out the old fashion way.

I'm taking Gr.12 Calculus right now, and just like all this crap, it serves no purpose in the real world. Its a waste of my freaking time.

I consider myself pretty good at math (for a senior in high school) and that one has me stumped. I put it in my graphing calculator and got 4.986. I'm guessing there is a typo invlolved.

It's probably supposed to be x^1/3 = [3(x-4)]^1/3 or something fairly easy like that. If that's the case, then x = 6 would be the answer.

Ya thats what Im thinking as well. I looked at that question and its waaay too hard for grade 8 algebra.
