Usually his riddles were so ingenius and complex that the crime was usually in progress before Batman could figure it out. And those scenes should go into the Logic Hall of Fame. Batman bounciing stuff off of Robin and then tying everything together - with Robin seconding every postulate.
An intelligent crook who thought he could outthink the Dynamic Duo. Big mistake ...
