Tampa picked to host 2009 Super Bowl

May 25, 2005
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Tampa was picked Wednesday to host the 2009 Super Bowl in a vote of NFL owners.

Tampa, which most recently hosted the NFL title game in 2001, beat out finalists Atlanta, Houston and Miami. Tampa also hosted Super Bowls in 1984 and 1991.

Next season's Super Bowl will be Feb. 5, 2006, in Detroit, with the 2007 game in Miami, and 2008 in a new stadium being built in Glendale, Ariz.

NFL owners voted in March to award the 2010 Super Bowl to New York, provided the Jets get approval for a 75,000-seat stadium on the West Side of Manhattan.

last time they hosted it i actually though they would be the first team to get to play at home in the super bowl. without looking it up i think they won it the previous year. could be mistaken...

anyways...tampa gets my vote for the coolest stadium in the league. gotta love the huge pirate ship that shoots shirts out of its cannons and has seating for fans. just an overall cool place.

they also have the hottest cheerleaders, but thats a different story :-b ;-D
