Thought Provoking Question is back!!!!

Postby Warpigs on Mon Jun 13, 2005 9:58 am

After a brief TPQ sabbatical, I'm back with a number of other questions that I just don't have an answer for. If you're like me, you find questions such as these as great conversation starters -- and with the melting pot of people at our cafe, once in a while you'll actually get a solid answer to these life mysteries.

So, in spirit of the sticky summer weather lately in central PA, my question this time is:

Where does pink lemonade come from? There are no pink lemons that I'm aware of. Does this mean that someone has to artificially color lemonade to make pink lemonade? If this is so, who was the person to choose pink? Why wasn't it blue lemonade, or red lemonade or even green lemonade?

When I think of Pink Lemonade, I think similar to the drink "Green River". That is I think of it as it's own flavor. I do not think of it as lemonade that is pink. I have never had a glass of pink lemonade that tasted anything like regular lemonade.

The color then would be random I suppose. Just as Green River could have been blue, red, or orange river (as all food coloring tastes the same), Pink lemonade could have been blue, red or green lemonade.

That's just my take on it.

An educated guess . . . It's lemons mixed with pink grapefruit and sugared to taste. Just a hunch. Also after further reflection, cranberry juice could probably be added ;-D

for those of legal age . . . Sprite, grenadine, lemon juice, vodka, rum, gin, tequila, tripple sec lots of ice if you want a monster electric pink lemonade

i also am guessing it is lemons mixed with pink grapefruit. its not like the taste is the same as regular lemonade, but its yellow...its got a unique taste. im sure they add a bit of coloring too.

Pink lemonade...the way Grandma used to make it.

2 cups white sugar
9 cups water
2 cups fresh lemon juice
1 cup cranberry juice, chilled

Add some Absolut and a twist and it's a nice summer day refresher!

I googled and it looks like Sixxgunn is correct. No wonder I don't like it. I hate cranberries.

Although I did see one recipe using certain kinds of Red Sumac.

the pink lemondae in my fridge says that there is a little bit of cranberry juice in it. They put extra sugar in the pink kind to mask out the cranberry juice. I've alwasy prefered normal lemonade though because I always thought that pink lemonade was fake.

No, I was talking to it. I asked it what is in it, and it turned itself 90 degrees to the right straight to the nutrition facts. ;-D
