What happened to this guy? He had that excellent season in 03, and nothing since. Now I know Palmer came in and all that good stuff, but why hasnt he been traded? Is he sticking around to mentor Palmer? Why werent teams like the 49ers, Browns or even the Packers going after him? I think he is only like 32. He still has some good football left in him. Anybody have any news on the Kitna front?
Kitna is the perfect backup QB. The Bengals would be foolish to get rid of him. The only way he gets any playing time is if Palmer goes down and that is always a possibility.
This guy is what made me consider the possibility that the Bears might have known what they were doing after all. I started checking into UFA's after hearing his contract status, and see a couple of decent options for next year, instead of the has beens of this year. Both Kitna and Brees(duh!) are UFA's next year, and either one would look nice in Bear blue and orange. Kitna could be a solid backup if Rex goes down yet again, and Brees would make a nice starter making Rex a very nice backup. Wishful thinking I know, but stranger things have happened, like Wannstedt getting another job after ruining my Bears!
Kitna is perfectly fine with being a backup NFL QB. He loves Cincinnati and would probably stay there to play for less money...
Kitna probably could have gotten a starting job in '04, and he could compete for a starting job in '05, but he likes sitting on the bench just fine. It's not like studying film and carrying a clipboard is hard work for $1 million dollars a year.
Sorry Sixxgunn, but no way does Brees start in Chicago next year. Either he proves himself a fluke and no one will go for him as a starter next year, or SD will franchise him again if need be until they can pan out a long term deal with him.

San Diego decides next year whether it's Rivers or Brees. You can't pay 2 franchise QBs for very long and expect to have any type of team.
Kitna's smart. he's gonna spend the next 6 or even 8 years making hundreds of thousands of dollars and hold a clipboard or talk on a radio for a living.he'll make all that money, play longer and have no permanent injuries after he retires.
