Whats a good number of yards per point for return yardage

Just a quick question, about how many yards per point should it be for a team defenses kick/punt return yardage? We are using 50 yards per point, but it seems like the Ds are getting a TON of points off of this. Is that fine or are they getting too inflated?

I like 1 point per 25 yards.

It depends on the rest of your scoring, but if you feel it's too large a factor in your defensive scoring, by all means take an axe to the category and cut it down to size.

It's never good when a category you intended to be peripheral takes on a central role...

Well in my league, we are not big return yardage people, we do 1pt for 40.

These points are added to the team defense instead of to the player? Do I have that right?

So if you take say Atlanta's D, then you get your standard defensive scoring plus 1 for 50 for every 50 yards Atlanta ends up returning the ball over the course of the game, regardless of who the return man is?

If this is the case, then I gotta think that 1 for 50 sounds about right.... You figure 250 return yards is pretty huge over the course of a game, and that's only 5 points.... If you make it any less, it become somewhat meaningless....

I mean at 1 for 100, there are very few times that this is really going to come into play.... Which kind of kills the fun of having return yards....

i personally don't like return yards on team defenses. its ok for bigger leagues set on players at a 2 to 1 ratio to recieving/rushing yards. But it really blows up defenses if set on them. it also rewards a defense that gives up alot of points. because they field alot of kickoffs and you can basically count on 20 yards per kick.

In what sense? Like the amount of yards the defense gives up, or the amount it amasses on its own through fumble recoveries, interception returns, and kick/punt yardage?
