Ok. My question is why does everyone bash this guy. I hear people calling him a bust already, or that this is his last chance to be a starter in the NFL. I will say that I don’t get to see very many lions games (pretty much just the turkey day games) but he doesn’t look terrible. I do know that his stats have improved over the last few years or so.
That’s not really too bad. It shows a young qb improving, especially under a new west coast offense last year. Note that he also had a horrible o-line, bad wrs, and rbs until recently (Rogers and Williams have played in limited fashion and KJ just arrived this past year). Also, its important to note that until Mooch, the coaching staff was horrible along with their defense which doesn’t translate into good situations for Harrington.
So why do you all bash this guy? Look at David Carr. Nobody threatens him with the “bust” label and his stats aren’t much better than Joey’s.
I think he's better than Carr..in the final 8 games last year, Carr was pathetic, while harrington actually got a little better as the season wore on...
harrington has all the weapons to succeed with the RB, WR's, etc..
don't believe the hype about Garcia, he's washed up...
I followed him through his college career. The guy is a true competitor and has the ability to play championship-caliber football. Give him a healthy supporting cast and I think he'll light it up.
Yo, Met... thanks for the sig! GO DUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here are some guys who had better QB ratings than Harrington:
02 - Rodney Peete, Chad Hutchinson, Patrick Ramsey, Quincy Carter, Shane Matthews, Tim Couch, David Carr, Jeff Blake, Kordell Stewart,
03 - Doug Johnson, Jeff Blake, Quincy Carter, Kelly Holcomb, Patrick Ramsey, Tommy Maddox... everybody except Kordell Stewart and Kyle Boller.
04 - Tim Rattay, Kurt Warner, David Carr, Billy Volek
Now if you look at the guys I listed, a lot were either incompetent starters who lost their jobs, backups who performed better than Harrington, or guys in situations similar to his (Quincy Carter for example). That's why I think Harrington will be a bust. That's why I think Detroit will make their playoff run once Garcia gets his shot.
Oh, and David Carr, all three years, even his rookie year when his offensive line was so bad, he set the season sack record for QBs, outperformed Joey Harrington.
The games I watched Joey really did suck for the most part although to his credit he did put together a few good games last year. The main thing I saw was a major accuracy problem which to me is not something you're just now learning in your 3rd NFL year. People will try to blame some of that on the receivers I guess on the theory they're running poor routes but that was not what I saw. If he can improve his accuracy he could be a decent QB but the question is do you want to count on that in a guy entering his 4th year?
Joey Harrington is going to light it up this year. I have no facts or stats to back me up, just my gut feeling. I 'feel' it.
Right now he's being drafted in the 11th round in mock drafts on average, so I'm going to grab him in the 9th or 10th round.

qb rating is a poor determiner of qb effectiveness. and if u wanna throw out carrs first year, fine - but done say he outplayed harrington. carr had a bad o-line -- worse than joey's but joey's was bad too. to me carr and harrington are two qbs in similar situations but for some reasons are not compared similarly.

No. In fact its the best statistic for determining a QBs effectiveness. It combines completions, yards, TDs, and INTs per attempt. There is no more complete and effective way of ranking QBs.
If you'd like another comprehensive ranking system to base it off of:
You can read up on the site how it determines rankings. You'll notice that for 2003 Harrington does horrible, and in 2002 he's the 44th best QB with at least 100 attempts.
If you dont like either of these ranking systems, feel them to be subpar, by all means, show me a better one.
QB rating is not the best for ranking a QB especially for a QB with not running game.
In '04 and '03 Joey had more TDs and Yards than the guys that you listed except for Carr's 2004 yards. The QB rating has a lot to do with completions and attempts. When you do not have a running game and are throwing to WRs that wouldn't even make a practice squad for most teams you are not going to have a good completion %. '02 leading receivers - Stewart(RB) and Schroeder(3rd WR from GB); '03 leading receivers - Bryson(RB) and Hakim(3rd WR from STL) Not only that he had a bad O-line with no time to throw.
