Well I did it...

Postby kashikis » Fri Jul 08, 2005 6:20 am

I went and reserved my Xbox360. This thing better kick ass or I'll be pissed. *grumble* 350 friggin dollars *grumble*

I did like the fact that they seem to be going very RPG heavy with this box. There are 3 or 4 RPGs at launch I am already interested in. Since that's what I like to play most it should be cool.

Also there is a rumor that if you pre-order the 360 it may come with Halo 2 loaded on it. Anyone hear this?

No really, I'm not having a bad day.

Nope. Next summer for PS3.

This leaves the Christmas market all for Microsoft. Brilliant.

if ps3 can come up with a good marketing strategy im sure theyll make more money in the long run, the system is supposed to be better than the 360 hence the later release date... dont forget about the dreamcast, sega rushed out a new system and ended up losing, BIG.

Sega also had a very poor history with console releases.

Sega Master System - Pseudo-failure
Sega Genesis - Big Seller
Sega Gamegear - So-so...
Sega 32x - Complete failure
Sega CD - Complete and unadulterated failure
Sega Saturn - Failure.
Sega Dreamcast - The end.

I always thought the real money is in software, not hardware?

Manja - that's VERY true. Most companies lose money on the hardware, and make it back on the software... but keep this in mind: most gaming companies that release hardware ALSO release popular software that they (obviously) keep proprietary to their console.

Microsoft has Halo, Nintendo has Mario/Zelda, Sega had Sonic, etc.

If a company can afford to release their own consoles, they can typically make an absolute killing by releasing highly anticipated and hyped games and software on their system only. If it weren't for the FF being exclusively on PS2 and GTA franchise having a jump start on PS2, I honestly think the Xbox would have much higher sales figures.

And word is Rockstar isn't going to be signing any system exclusive deals for the next-generation.
