how overrated are holdout rumors? (especially for top players)


when was the last time a top offensive player held out for the entire year??

Holdouts have never been as prevalent as they are this year. So many more players are holding out this year than have in previous years. I don't put a lot of stock in holdout rumors, but its impossible to completely discount them.

As far as draft picks go it's all Alex Smith's fault. The past couple of years the #1 pick was signed before the draft even took place and it allowed for the other picks to slowly slot in. Now, everyone has to wait for Smith to sign because agents don't want to sign there guy and have a guy behind him make more money.

Yes, but with rookies this year it is more complicated, considering the CBA hasn't been extended or a new one hasn't been signed.

Because of that there is the threat of an uncapped year on the horizon and players, agents and teams must take that into consideration during negotiations.

Not to mention that the 49ers new the parameters of a deal should they have elected to take Rodgers or Edwards. They took Smith knowing darn well that a contract would be difficult to get done in the forseeable future.
