It seems to me that whenever a good RB is brought in to a team with an already starting caliber RB, and whenever that phrase is used, it usually spells the end of one reign, and the begining of an0ther. Slowly but surely, I think we will see the competition shorten, and staff start talking more about how great Travis looks in camps. I could be wrong, but to me this is a fore-warning that Brown is simply not the starting RB, rather than saying Henry isn't. Teams just won't immediately demote their featured back until tehy have an excuse, such as the exceptional ability of Henry that they see in training camp...it just wouldn't be respectful. Thats just my $.02
Brown would make a right dandy back up.
If You're Not Livin On The Edge, You're Takin Up Too Much Space
This smells like trouble for C Brown owners. Henry=Tough. Brown=Pansie. That is all you need to know.
"Well, um, actually a pretty nice little Saturday, we're going to go to Home Depot. Yeah, buy some wallpaper, maybe get some flooring, stuff like that. Maybe Bed, Bath, & Beyond, I don't know, I don't know if we'll have enough time."
Big game I agree with your post 100%. I read that Henry stated that " there is no reason we can't co-exist in the backfield". What? That is the reason he wanted out of Buffalo, he wanted to be a starter (and the fact he knew he would not start behind McGahee).
So now he goes to Tennessee and he is happy by platooning? No way, no how! I say it breaks down exactly as you've stated and before the end of preseason Henry is deemed starter.
He would not have agreed to go, and agreed to a new deal unless he was pretty much "guaranteed" to start.

henry wasnt getting any carries at all with mcgahee there (about 2 per game, not platooning) and was upset that the bills drafted mcgahee

So do you think he is happy going there to platoon? I mean he was happy as hell to get out of Buffalo, but do you think he would accept a deal to share time? I know Brown is a solid back when he plays but they are making a committment to Henry (as evidenced by the deal he got). BTW, has anyone seen length or numbers yet?

here ya go
Travis Henry's four-year contractextension includes a $4 million option bonus next spring.
Does this mean he could be cut if he has a poor year? We'd imagine so. After the bonus, Henry will earn around $2.4 million a year if he posts backup-like numbers or between $3 million-$3.5 million if he posts starter numbers. Coach Jeff Fisher reiterated the team's stance that it doesn't matter who starts - both will play plenty. Jul. 20 - 11:01 am et
1. Whoever said the Titans would return to a power running game, 10-7, low-scoring team is off their rocker. You don't hire the best offensive coordinator in college football history, only to have him design an offense where he runs the ball 75% of the time.
2. The contract for Henry is not one that signals that Henry will be here for the next 4 years. The Titans will basically be in the position next off-season to choose between Henry or Brown. There is a roster bonus the Titans could use on Henry next off-season, but if Henry turns out very bad, they could decide not to give him the roster bonus, and cut/trade him.
3. This is RBBC all the way. Norm Chow LOVES to use multiple running backs, and this will give the Titans alot of flexibility. I would love to have either Henry or Brown on my team in a backup role, if I could get them in a late round. If one of these two rb's goes down for any length of time, the other rb's value will absolutely explode...
4. This means great things for the Titans offense, and Steve McNair. Chow loves to throw to the rb's, and having a rb in case Brown goes down will ensure a balanced offense.
I seriously think the Titans will have one of the most exciting offenses in the league this year.
Now our defense??? yikes...I hope the rookies pan out... Our defense is another reason the Titans will be throwing the ball ALOT this season.

Even if they let Brown go next year and re-coup the pick.
Next year they won't be cap-strapped or rebuilding.
They should be WAY under the cap next off-season and have the ability to sign multiple free agents. They have about 24 draft picks the last two years...Add 6 more rookies next year, and the third round pick is pretty inconsequential, considering what they are getting in return.
