Read this story from the Sun Sentinel. It explains what happened alot better. Wright is a young kid who is out of shape, why he lasted so long in the Supplemental Draft despite his talent and size.

My guess is that the kid thought he'd be getting cut from all the verbal punishment he was probably receiving for being overweight. But Saban had some good things to say about him afterwards, so no I don't think he's being a jerk. He's being tough, something all coaches need to be able to do.

By far my favorite coach ever in highschool football was the one coach that would ream you for when you just absolutely sucked, but was also the first one on the sidelines to congratulate you when you came up big. I think all coaches should be that straightforward with their players.
