Portis. I don't think enough people give Jansen the credit he deserves when he is playing and he will be back this year...big difference for CP.

I still say Portis.

Which ones? The ones where he had a higher ypc on a harder defensive schedule? Or the stats that show he was the better fantasy RB last year?

Probably the ones that show Rudi being a poor fantasy RB 10 weeks out of 16, or the ones that show he got the vast majority of his production in a small handfull of games.

I was also trying to warn people away from drafting Portis last yr for the same reason everyone else was.

This yr Id much rather have Portis than Rudi.

Rudi. What has changed in Cincinnati? Their entire offense is pretty much intact. So barring injury, what reason is there to believe Rudi won't put up 1,400 yards and 12 TD's again? ANd don't throw the "tough schedule" crap at me, Rudi had an insanely tough schedule last year and he still produced.

On the other hand, what reason is there to believe that Portis will improve? The Redskins' offense hasn't gotten much better. THe one thing they can point to is a healthy Jon Jansen, and that Gibbs will supposedly do more spread running. But is that really going to take Portis from 1,300 and 5 TD's to 1,400 and 12 TD's like Rudi? Possibly, but unlikely.

Definitely not likely enough to warrant reaching for Portis when Rudi's right there, just waiting to give you another 1,400 and 12.

Why? Because Jansen's back? Admittedly, Jansen's a good player, but is one player going to suddenly make Portis the goal-line maven he was in Denver? That's a stretch.

Portis isn't such a reach. Last year he was on a new team that totally struggled on offense. But here are some stats from last year.

Total yards
Portis 1550
Rudi 1538

TD's
Rudi 12
Portis 7

Receptions(for 1 pt per rec leagues)
Portis 40
Rudi 15

Portis will bounce back from his subpar year. But even his bad year was as good as Rudi's last year, minus the TD total which I think will change.

Well...here's some things:

1. Gibbs presnap run formations have as much motion as STL's passing formations. I'm sure that wasn't easy to pick up.

2. Samuels had surgery offseason on his ankle.

3. They picked up a better center.

4. And Jansen's back.

So there's four.

Wasn't Samuels also hurt last year aswell if memory serves. So basically they were missing 2 key pieces to their line. Everyone has injuries but those two guys were far and away the best two players on the skins line. Portis still had good yardage numbers just not the td total. I think he will be much better punching it in this year. I had Rudi on my team last year and it seemed like he never had that explosive game, well maybe 1, that can carry a squad; i think Portis can provide that this year. Explosiveness wins fantasy championships.

Portis has upside in this offense. Yes Jansen does mean that much and so does Gibbs realizing he needed to incorporate run blocking schemes that play to Portis' strengths. And another year for the staff and players to come together makes it a better offense this year.
Rudi doesn't have as much room for improvement IMO. And while Rudi had very respectable year end numbers, his weekly production was sub par for a top RB. Look at the weekly scoring. Not very steady. He probably won for you some weeks but he probably let you down twice as often as he was big. Just not very consistent.
And their yardage was close when everyone agrees that Portis had a bad year and Rudi had a great year. Rudi had more TD's but that could be attributed to Wash's O-line and anemic offense. And Portis had far more rec's so in my money league Rudi only scored 12 more points over the length of the season than Portis.
Conclusion, Portis outscores Rudi this year.

I just don't see why everyone's in love with Portis. Yeah he lit it up in Denver, so did Mike Anderson, Olandis Gary and Reuben Droughns.

Then he leaves "running back heaven" and he has a non top 10 year. BUt just because it's Clinton freaking Portis he's supposed to put up 1,500 and 15 again.
